SUMMER CHAPTER MEETING & BARBEQUE ON JUNE 5

It is time for the annual summer PhD Chapter meeting in the chapter house, "T-centralen", Drottning Kristinas väg 29. We will start the meeting at 17:00 on Wednesday, June 5. During the meeting, we will present what the board has been working with since the last Chapter meeting, meet the candidates for next year's Chapter board and hold the board elections, and conduct other Chapter business. The agenda and relevant documents will be available under "Documents" by May 31 at the latest.

After the meeting, we will have a Summer barbeque at 19:00. The price will be 30/50 SEK (members/non-members). There will be a wide assortment of beer and other beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) available for purchase.

The Chapter house will be open at 16:00 for any programs who wish to hold PAD elections in advance of the Chapter meeting.

Wanted: Candidates for THS Student Parliament By-Election

Do you want to become a member of the THS student parliament (kårfullmäktige)? The by-election will take place September 2-13 and we are now looking for candidates.

Motion rejected by the THS student parliament (KF)

The PhD Chapter has been trying to get THS to become more inclusive and representative of the numerous non-Swedish speaking students and PhD Candidates at KTH. A previous motion from the PhD Chapter board about translating the THS vision document (åsiktsdokument) was rejected by the THS student parliament (KF). Last December, the Chapter Meeting decided to send a new motion about investigating the conditions for translating THS' strategic and regulating documents. Unfortunately, it was also rejected today (Feb 13) by ONE vote in the parliament. The main argument against was from the THS board - that they do not want any more work during the spring term - although some argued that this is part of the work they are supposed to do anyway and that it would help in their recruitment of non-Swedish speakers.

We officially protested the decision at the meeting and here is the motivation we sent in today (Feb 14).

The good news is that we had many more supporters this time around and it created quite a debate about THS' work (even if most of it was tangential), including their operational language, communication with, and participation and inclusion of non-Swedish speakers. Many people think that "something needs to be done", even if it is still unclear as to exactly how to get something to happen. We are also starting to try to coordinate with other Chapters that support such developments. Our next move is to try to get THS to include such issues in the 2013/14 annual plan (verksamhetsplan), which we will do in a workshop specifically about this as well as in the next parliament meeting.

PhD Candidate Afterworks & Pubs during Spring 2013

The next AFTERWORK is on Thursday, April 11, starting at 5pm at the chapter house, T-centralen, Drottning Kristinas väg 29. Do come and enjoy the company! There is a wide assortment of beer and other beverages (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

During the spring term, we also plan to hold several Friday pubs in the chapter house (and we need volunteers for these too). The first pub will be in a couple weeks and there are several pubs that will follow it during the spring:

Friday Mar 15
Friday Apr 19 -> Apr 26
Friday May 24

As always, the vehicle engineering chapter keeps the pub open every Friday (except exam weeks, when it is open on the Saturday instead), and you are just as welcome to join any other pub that they arrange as well.

Also please remember the yearly summer BBQ on June 5 (Wednesday).

Floorball

THS will organize KTH floorball championship Saturday, March 2nd, 12:00-18:00. The games will be played on small-sized courts 3 versus 3.
